| First Call Auto Haul did not take responsibity for dent |
I used this website to choose a good mover and as per the ratings contacted Eric @ 1st call auto hall. He was very prompt and arranged the pick up on time. The car arrived on time a t the destination through Pioneer who was the actual mover, but with a significant dent on the front quarter panel.
So what I found out was Eric was a broker i.e 1st call auto haul does not do the actual moving. So he advised me to contact Pioneer regarding the damage and I got the run around. My mistake was to send out the payment to Pioneer upon delivery I should have held on to it till the damage was assessed. Initially Eric was co-operative but eventually I could not get hold of him.
My advice is to go directly through a moving company, you will save money and get more accountability.

Hi Mohan,
I have to say I am disappointed in this post. I understand your frustrations regarding the dent, but to place blame on 1st Call Auto Haul is a mistake. Since we helped to move your car back in 2006, we have tried in vain to guide you in recouping damages from the carrier, Pioneer Auto Express. While we often have some influence over damage claims, we are ultimately not the ones who decide the validity of your claim -that responsibility is on the shipper, their proof of damages, and the carrier’s insurance company. As I have told you on many occasions, I would love to see a fair and balanced resolution to this claim, but to hold us responsible is unfair. I have, and will continue to help, if you wish to pursue Pioneer Auto Express as they are the ones responsible for any and all damage claims. I have made several calls on your behalf and given you Pioneer’s insurance policy number, their agent’s name and phone number. I have even guided you on any potential legal claims should you wish to pursue this as a course of action.
I would also like the opportunity to respond to a few other remarks on this post as I find them to be disingenuous. Mohan had mentioned that he “found out” we are broker after the transport. I’m not sure why this was a shock to you sir. Aside from our initial conversations in which I told you we are a broker and I detailed the responsibilities of both the broker and the carrier, shouldn’t the fact that you needed to have a certified check available to “Pioneer Auto Express” been enough to let you know another company was involved? Also, to suggest that I have disappeared or am otherwise not available to discuss this matter is simply not true. I am, and will continue to be, at the same number as when you booked this order over 16 months ago.
To make this clear to any and all potential auto transport customers, neither 1st Call Auto Haul nor any other broker on this site are responsible for damage claims. That responsibility is clearly on the carrier, who holds the insurance policy for both liability (usually $1,000,000) and cargo (usually $150,000) coverage. Your vehicle is considered cargo throughout the transport. The brokers’ legal responsibility is to ensure the carrier meets the basic requirements to operate as an interstate mover of automobiles –specifically to ensure each carrier has the proper authority granted by the Department of Transportation and each carrier has an insurance policy in place and in effect through the anticipated transport date. While a broker’s duties should extend well past its legal responsibility (timely transports, good communications, professional carriers) it is important to know our limitations.
I hope to continue to help you Mohan to seek a resolution to your claim, but again, the responsibility does not rest with 1st Call Auto Haul. I hope this is clear to all.
Regards,
Eric Sailer
