Fiirst wrote here on 4/2/7 just after Progressive insurance had closed my case!?! It turns out, after speaking to a supervisor, that despite my written notice of car damage upon receipt, that the small print in my original contract with middleman autotransportdirect.com said that ambels was not responsible for damage to older cars that did not have tow rings (?). You would think that after the ailing 78 year-old owner drove the car down the block to give them, and cautioned them about how to tie the car for towing, that they could have refused to take the car. Of course that would require a modicum of morality...
I am also on the line for a new starter, generator and battery, all of which were working when the car was picked up in TN on 12/13/6. It arrived nine days later, after sitting in a lot in nearby Canoga Park for a few days.
At this point, I am forced to sue in small claims court, either here or PA, or both. Unless I get a letter from the mechanic who fixes the car (an honest one, believe it or not :) that the move did affect the starter generator and battery, I will have spent more than $1,000 on repairs even if I get the $1,250 due for the rack & pinion and king pins in small claims.
This has been a nightmare and is forcing me to sell the car because I do not have the time and knowledge to undo the damage and have wasted almost 4 months so far, during which time I have never driven my 4CV, not even to the DMV which has a "MA4CV" plate waiting for me.
Please if you have an older car read the fine print carefully. Thanks for your time. Part 3 to come after results.
